Feds to clarify rules on supervised injection sites

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The federal government is about to clarify rules around opening new supervised injection sites.

That has left a Vancouver city councillor leery.

The feds plan to introduce a bill tomorrow

That’s news to councillor Kerry Jang, who says Vancouver could use more injection sites.

“Certainly the need for a supervised injection site has been demonstrated. We see that Insite in the Downtown Eastside is actually well over capacity right now. There are people lining up. I was just there on Sunday,” he says.

Jang is concerned. “I would really like to see what those rules are. I think the problem with the Harper government in the past is that they’ve let ideology trump public health.”

The courts have rejected an attempt by Ottawa to shut down Vancouver’s site.
