Voting book missing from Vancouver-Langara riding

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A voting book is missing from the Vancouver-Langara riding according to Elections BC.

The book is what you sign when you show ID to receive a ballot on voting day.

The agency is holding a news conference tomorrow morning to discuss how this may or may not have affected last month’s election.

John Dixon with the BC Civil Liberties Association says the disappearance does raise eyebrows, but he says voters shouldn’t worry about personal info getting into the wrong hands, as the book wouldn’t contain much. “Probably the address of the person, but certainly nothing concerning their voter choice.”

Dixon says the situation is an embarrassing one for Elections BC, but everyone should wait for an explanation before jumping to conclusions. “We should all wait until we hear at least the preliminary results of the appropriate investigation. This is the kind of thing that doesn’t sound good, on the other hand there may be a fairly innocent explanation.”
