Personal information inside missing Vancouver ballot box

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Elections BC says personal information is included in a ballot box that has gone missing from the Vancouver-Langara riding.

The organization has known about it for more than three weeks.

Elections BC says the ballots from Sir William Van Horne elementary school were all counted, but they realized on election night they no longer had the box. It includes a book with information on registered voters from area 018 in Vancouver-Langara.

Chief Electoral Officer Keith Archer says it was a judgement call to wait until now to let others know.

“We wanted to ensure that we had, at Elections BC headquarters… a full opportunity to review the material from that district electoral office. We had that opportunity on June 5th,” he explains.

“We have no indication that this information has been stolen as opposed to lost or misplaced. All we know is that we don’t have it in our possession,” he adds.

The information in the box was mainly names and addresses, as well as some signatures. But for ten people who registered or updated their information when they voted, birthdates were also included.

If you’re worried your personal information may be missing, you can contact Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683.
