Keep documents if you’re bumped from WestJet flight: expert

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s getting a little less stressful to take a flight out of YVR.

WestJet has been ordered to pay up if the airline bumps you from a flight into or out of Canada.

Brad Davies with Virtually There Travel is pleased with the ruling from the Canadian Transportation Agency, but has some advice for you.

“If you do get bumped off a flight, make sure you keep all the records you can and all the documentation and record the incident so that you can make a claim in a timely fashion,” he says.

“[Airlines] generally give [vouchers] to you automatically or they give it to you electronically. It’s nice to know that it’s going to be a prescribed formula going forward. It used to be whatever you can negotiate,” he adds.

The CTA has not said how much WestJet should pay you for your inconvenience, but it has already told Air Canada its promise of $200 per bumped passenger isn’t enough.
