Business threatens legal action over proposed Kits bike lane

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A bike lane proposed for Vancouver’s Point Grey Road/Cornwall Avenue corridor is being met with even more opposition.

Planet Veg owner Chitra Bansal tells the Province newspaper it will ruin his business and if that happens he thinks the city should pay.

Cheryl Ziola with the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce isn’t surprised and says it’s proof the city has some work to do.

“All we can suggest is perhaps that the city consider doing a similar example as what they’ve done on the east side, on Union Street, and maybe go back to the drawing board and take into consideration some additional community consultation and present some additional options based on feedback,” she explains.

“It may be in the city’s best interests to ensure it does a more fulsome consultation process because I’m still hearing from other residents and businesses, they hadn’t even heard about it.”

Merchants and neighbours are getting together on Monday at the Sunset Grill to hold a strategy session.

City Council is expected to make its decision on the bike lane next month.
