Port Metro Vancouver has no plans to move oil through Delta

DELTA (NEWS1130) – Deltaport will not be moving oil and liquefied natural gas, according to Port Metro Vancouver, despite a report from Delta suggesting it could be exported in the future.

The port and the municipality’s mayor are in Norway to explore new spill response measures and shipping techniques with industry leaders.

Port Metro Vancouver’s Duncan Wilson says the trip also includes environmental groups and First Nations. He adds some local leaders in port communities have tagged along given all the talk around oil.

“I think the public expects the port to make sure we’re looking at innovation in terms of safety and spill preparedness and that’s what we’re doing,” he says. ” We’re there to ensure that we can facilitate Canada’s trade in a safe and responsible manner.

He insists there is no plan in the works to move oil through Delta, but he says the port wants to learn more with Kinder Morgan’s pipeline expansion proposal to Burrard Inlet, and a proposed YVR fuel facility on the Fraser River.
