Record-breaking temperatures recorded over the long weekend

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – Remember when we were complaining about the unseasonably-cool weather. Not anymore!

This weekend was a record-breaker for high temperatures.

“We saw yesterday’s values up to 28 degrees, even along the water’s edge,” says News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lcate. “It was 30-plus degrees in Abbotsford, 31 in Pitt Meadows and absolutely scorching through Sea-to-Sky country, where it hit 32 in Squamish, 35 in Whistler, and 36 in Pemberton.”

“Our BC hot-spot was in in Lytton, with 40 degrees,” he adds, noting we typically don’t see those kinds of temperatures until early August.

Russ says the heat should ease off a bit today.

“I think around here, with the sea breeze blowing, it’ll be a gorgeous afternoon. We’ll see a few clouds this morning and 25 degrees for a high today,” he tells us.

“You won’t find the next couple of nights nearly as stuffy; instead, with the breeze blowing, it cools off to about 14 degrees overnight. We’ll have patchy, low cloud tomorrow morning and then another mainly-sunny afternoon with that Wednesday temperature more like 23,” he forecasts.
