Breweries, distilleries now able to serve at on-site lounges

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’ll soon be able to enjoy a beer or a cocktail at the same place it’s crafted.

Vancouver city council passed zoning changes Tuesday night that will allow micro and craft brewers and distillers to serve alcohol in a small lounge on the same site that they brew.

Previously, they’d only been allowed to sell on site but not serve.

Speaking during Tuesday at the council meeting, Charles Tremewen with the Long Table micro distillery said the industry couldn’t be happier.

“Brewers and distillers are very excited about what council is going ahead with and I think that we’re enthusiastic about what the opportunity is for us as a revenue opportunity.”

Vancouver councilor George Affleck applauded the move.

“I think this is going to make Vancouver a centre for micro breweries and distilleries.”

He says the city is getting on-board at the beginning of a trend.

“For beer drinkers and distilleries as well, they can’t get enough of these local breweries and I think that’s great and I think the tourism aspect that we’ve heard about is going to be fantastic for our city.”

Lounges will be limited to 80 square metres and be allowed to operate from 9am until 11pm.
