VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As many parts of the country recover from severe flooding, we’re also hearing of people being wronged by their insurance provider.
Insurance companies will more often than not try to make sure they don’t have to pay you according to Ashleigh Patterson with Yahoo Finance. She says it’s important to not give up if you feel your claim is valid.
“Contact the adjuster, contact your broker as well and see if they can speak with the insurance provider on your behalf. If you feel like your problems have not been answered, you’re going to want to continue to escalate that with the insurance company, you’re going to want to go to their claims manager, you’re going to want to talk to the company’s ombudsperson,” she explains.
As a last resort, Patterson recommends hiring a lawyer.
Although most insurance companies don’t cover flood damage, there are other things you may be able to claim.
She says document everything through pictures.
