Snedeker is successful at Glen Abbey

OAKVILLE, ON (NEWS1130) – Third round leader Brandt Snedeker shot two-under-par in his final round to win the Canadian Open with a 16-under-par total. Four chaps tied for second. David Hearn was top Canadian, 12 shots back.

Snedeker made his move in the third round when he shot a nine-under 63, with nine birdies and nine pars.

There was a bit of a Canadian connection to his win. His caddy is Scott Vail hails from Oshawa, Ontario. Snedeker is also sponsored by the tournament’s sponsor, a major Canadian bank.

Dustin Johnson was briefly tied with Snedeker after he birdied the 16th hole, but he sent his tee shot on the 17th out of bounds. The boyfriend of Wayne Gretzky’s daughter Paulina finished the hole with a triple bogey. He finished tied for second at -13, along with fellow Americans Matt Kuchar, William McGirt and Jason Bohn.

Second round leader Hunter Mahan withdrew from the tournament just prior to the start of the third round on Saturday to fly back to Dallas to be with hid wife for the delivery of their first child. Candy Mahan gave birth to Zoe Olivia Mahan at 3:26 am in Texas.
Snedeker said Zoe would get a very nice gift from him.

Snedeker won at Pebble Beach earlier in the season. Only Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar and Eldrick Woods have won more than one event in 2013.

Veteran Canadian Mike Weir finished at three-under par, one back of Hearn. Roger Sloan of Merritt was one shot back of Weir.
