Permanent rainbow crosswalks on Davie Street for Pride

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Look down… it’s right under your feet!

A permanent monument to Pride Week in Vancouver has been unveiled in the heart of the city’s gay community.

Rainbow crosswalks have been painted around the intersection of Davie and Bute — a first in Canada — meant to mark Vancouver’s commitment to diversity, acceptance, and equality.

Mayor Gregor Robertson will also proclaim it Pride Week in Vancouver in a ceremony at City Hall at 10:45 a.m., ahead of a dialogue on social change and preventing homophobia.

At noon, the Rainbow Flag will be raised outside City Hall, followed by a barbecue.

There are events all week, with the big Pride Parade on Sunday.
