Ten BC athletes make Canada’s track and field team

OTTAWA, ON (NEWS1130) –   Kamloops shot putter Dylan Armstrong headlines Canada’s team for the world track and field championships in Moscow next month.  Armstrong , a silver medalist at last year’s world championships is one of ten BC athletes on the team.

Vancouver’s Shai-Anne Davis (4×100 metres),  Richmond’s Evan Dunfee (50-km race walk), and Michael Mason of Nanoose Bay (high jump) are among the other athletes who will represent Canada at the event.

The Lower Mainland athletes also include Vancouver’s Inaki Gomez (20-km race walk), Chris Winter (steeple chase), and Krista Woodward in Javelin, while Surrey’s Christabel Nettey will compete in the long jump.

Armstrong and Mason are one of 24 Olympians on Canada’s 46-person roster.  Athletics Canada’s goal this year is to improve on the medal count at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Canada placed 13th in the world in London with 18 medals, the same count as Beijing in 2008, just shy of the Own the Podium campaign’s goal of a top 12 finish, but based on gold medals, Canada finished 36th.

The world championships run August 10th to 18th at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.
