More money for doctors despite cash-strapped system

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Doctors are making a lot more money than they used to but a new study finds you’re not seeing the results.

Professor Hugh Grant with the University of Calgary says it’s quite the contrast from a decade ago.

It used to be an increase in services resulting in doctors cashing in. But now we’re dealing with a cash-strapped health care system. “Driving the growth in incomes has been a rise in fees-per-service and not the overall levels of service itself.”

Grant wants government to bring in more regulations so you reap more benefits.

The study also found doctors in BC are not getting paid as much as in most other provinces.

But they’re making an average gross income of $300,000 a year.
