Robbery suspect caught on SkyTrain; was carrying knife, cash

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Here’s a lesson for would-be bank robbers out there: the SkyTrain doesn’t make a very good getaway car.

A robbery suspect learned that the hard way over the weekend.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Vancouver Police got a call about a stickup at the TD Bank on Georgia and Howe in Downtown Vancouver.

The VPD got in touch with Transit Police and provided them a description of the suspect.

“Transit officers, arriving moments later at Olympic Village Station, spotted a man matching the suspect description leaving the station,” says Anne Drennan with Transit Police. “He was taken into custody by the officers with a Vancouver Police Canine Unit standing by.”

Officers didn’t have a hard time spotting the suspect; he was said to be carrying a knife and a sack full of cash on the Canada Line.

Charges are pending.
