Spending time with grandparents can boost your mood: study

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Here’s another reason to pick up the phone and give grandma or grandpa a call: Researchers say having a close relationship with your grandparents can boost your emotional well-being.

A study out of Boston College has found spending time with grams or gramps can lead to both generations having fewer symptoms of depression. Wisdom and advice from older family members can also improve your well-being.

Researchers found something as simple as a ride to the store or help around the house raised the mood of the adult grandchild as well as the grandparent.

They say the findings emphasize that extended family members play important roles throughout adulthood, as they encourage close relationships.

The average age of the grandparent involved in the study was 77; the average age of the grandchild was 31.
