Investigators heading to site of deadly float plane crash

TOFINO (NEWS1130) – The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have been forced to hike to the site of a float plane crash on Vancouver Island, after bad weather prevented them from flying to the remote location.

Two people were killed and four others taken to hospital — one in critical condition — when a float plane crashed about 85 kilometres north of Tofino on Friday morning.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but pilots did activate an emergency beacon minutes after takeoff.

The aircraft was a DeHavilland Beaver float plane, owned by Air Nootka.

It’s believed the passengers were a group of hikers that were headed back to Gold River.
