Seven-hour rescue for hiker near the Grouse Grind

By

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – North Shore Rescue crews spent the night trying to get a hiker back to safety after he got turned around on the BCMC Trail, just east of the Grouse Grind.

Search leader Tim Jones says members of the Grouse Grind Patrol heard the man calling out for help around 9:30 p.m. “We immediately assessed that this is going to be a rescue.”

“The person was stuck… off another adjacent trail called the Bluff trail,” he adds.

Jones says it took quite a while for crews to reach the man because of the rough terrain. “They actually had to rappel down into a gully to get him and then bring him out on a rope back up… so it’s been a long night.”

It took rescuers nearly seven hours to get him off the mountain.
