‘None of the above’ not a good option for TransLink: expert

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There have been calls this past week for a ‘none of the above’ option in the upcoming referendum on funding for the transit system.  But the head of The City Program at Simon Fraser University says the option could do a lot of damage to the region’s livability.

“We can’t have another million people in this town and not have a transportation system that can serve them,” says professor Gord Price.

Choosing ‘none of the above’ would be like saying “there will be no new transit in this region for a decade or possibly a generation,” he says.

The province continues to be vague on the details of the referendum.  No date has been set and we don’t know what the options will be.

Metro Vancouver mayors and the provincial government have been unable to come up with or agree upon a stable funding model for the transit system.
