Ex-adviser to former premier to review trades-training system

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – A deputy minister to former British Columbia premier Gordon Campbell will review the body that oversees and manages trades training in the province.

Skills Training Minister Shirley Bond says Jessica McDonald will examine the role and function of the Industry Training Authority and ensure it is meeting its mandate and reaching its targets.

Bond says McDonald will seek advice on the organization and the trades-training system and examine best practices in other jurisdictions.

The review will begin immediately.

McDonald served as deputy minister to Campbell between 2005 and 2009 and was also the cabinet secretary.

The provincial government says about one-million jobs are expected to open up in BC during the next decade, and 43 per cent are expected to be in trades or technical occupations.
