Two dead, one hurt in separate accidents on Metro roads

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 16-year-old girl has died in hospital, less than a day after being run down while in a marked crosswalk in Port Coquitlam.

RCMP confirm the unnamed teen died early Wednesday morning.

Ray lives just a block away from where the accident happened, and says the intersection is so loud, he didn’t even know there had been an accident until police showed up and closed the intersection, posting yellow tape, restricting all directions for several hours.

Mounties are looking for an older man with greying hair who was driving the black Ford F150 pickup truck with black canopy that left the scene after the girl was hit.

Corporal Jamie Cheung says the pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk.

“The pick-up truck just simply didn’t stop and hit her. After the crash, he just left,” he says.

The teen is one of three people killed or injured on Metro Vancouver roads in accidents on Tuesday afternoon.

A 50-year-old male cyclist died when he was pinned by a tractor-trailer rig on a busy route near a skating complex in Burnaby.

RCMP Staff-Sergeant Ghalib Bhayani says it happened at Norland Avenue and Sprott Street just before 5 p.m.

“The truck driver remained at the scene and was very cooperative with police and provided information regarding the accident. A number of witnesses were also identified at the scene who are helping us put together the events that led to the accident,” he says.

The name of the cyclist has not been released.

And a 13-year-old boy was hit by a car in Vancouver, but the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and the youth is now listed in stable condition in hospital.
