Burrard Bridge construction causing TransLink detours

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’ve probably noticed major traffic snarls in Kitsilano heading to the Burrard Bridge.

Crews continue ripping up the Burrard Cornwall intersection as part of a major traffic reconfiguration.

The traffic delays have gotten so bad, they’re causing TransLink to begin weekend detours on the 2, 22 and N22 routes along Cornwall.

“We actually experienced some pretty significant delays on the 2, 22 and even the N22 which is the night bus. Some of our buses were delayed anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes,” says Derek Zabel with TransLink.

They added shuttle buses but even that didn’t work which is forcing the weekend detours.

“Basically in a nutshell the 2, 22 and the N22 will take Burrard to 4th and then over to MacDonald cutting past that section that is really slowing them down,” says Zabel.

He says they’ll take it one weekend at a time for now.

There are no plans yet to detour the routes during the week where the delays during rush hour haven’t been as bad.

Construction at the intersection is expected to continue for over seven more months.
