What do the BC Liberals think of Dix’s resignation?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Pundits say the resignation of Adrian Dix as leader of the BC NDP isn’t necessarily good news for the BC Liberals.

One expert calls it a “double-edged sword.”

Political Science Professor Dennis Pilon with York University says backroom Liberals are probably looking at the resignation as a mixed blessing.

“On the one hand, political partisans love to see their opponents fall. But sometimes, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.”

While the decision throws the New Democrats into temporary turmoil, Pilon believes backroom Liberals were okay with Dix staying on, rather than battling a new leader in the next election in 2017.

“In this case, they know they could beat Dix; they beat him once already. They got two cracks at Carole James [and] beat her both times. So, I think as far as the political operatives go, Dix offered them a lot of fodder to work with,” he tells us.

Pilon also believes Dix should not shoulder the entire blame for the loss in May, saying the party renewal should go deeper than just the leader.
