Medical marijuana grow-ops approved in West Kelowna

By

WEST KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – West Kelowna district council has voted to allow commercial medical marijuana grow-ops on industrial land.

Mayor Doug Findlater claims grow-ops are better off in industrial zones, especially in West Kelowna, where a lot of the agricultural land is mixed in with residential areas and near schools.

Under new federal rules that take effect next April, authorized users of medical pot can no longer grow their own, but must buy their supply from a licensed producer.

West Kelowna is the first Okanagan community to go public with its plans, and has already been approached by four companies.
