Hansen inks new deal to stay in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Entering the final year of his contract, Jannik Hansen has signed a four-year extension with the Canucks for $10 million dollars. The Dane had 10 goals and 17 assists in 47 games last season.

The new contract will begin in the fall of 2014.

The fleet-footed forward has spent all of his career in the Canucks organization. He was drafted in the ninth round of the 2004 entry draft, 287th overall.

The 27-year-old’s best year statistically was in 2011/2012, when he racked up 16 goals and 23 assists in 82 games. He’s a solid forechecker and also kills penalties.

The father of twin boys did not want to leave Vancouver, and likes the security of the new deal.

Speaking of the twins, Daniel and Henrik Sedin have yet to sign a new contract extension with the Canucks.

Vancouver sent their first-round draft pick, ninth overall, Bo Horvat back to his London club in the OHL.
