No word on how hard flu season will hit

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – In a few weeks you will be urged to get vaccinated against the flu strains expected to make the rounds this winter.

Provincial Medical Health Officer Dr Perry Kendall says “Again we are anticipating both H1N1 and H3N2.”

Right now he says there is no way to predict if it is going to be a particularly bad cold and flu season.

“The only way to predict it is to look at the global impact in the northern hemisphere, to see if any places are being affected earlier than others and to keep a close eye on their experience.”

He says the flu shot will help protect against those two main strains.

“We’ll be starting our vaccine clinics up at the end of October or early November.”

And although Kendall admits it’s not 100 per cent, he says it can help immensely.
