Rich Coleman heading to Asia push LNG investments

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The goal: To persuade Asia to invest in Liquified Natural Gas in BC.

The plan: a whirlwind trip to South Korea, China and Malaysia.

Natural Gas Development Minister Rich Coleman is heading out on Sunday and returning on October 13th.

“The opportunity is in front of us. We will be able to by doing this, stabilize government, find new ways to build technology that will reduce CO2 and all of the rest of it… if we have it. If we don’t have a successful province and industry, then we can’t build the tech industry around it that will actually change how this can be done and improved in the future.”

The province claims that delivering energy solutions to Asia will boost our economy by providing high-paying jobs.

“The fact of the matter is that we have a resource that can go to a different market at a different price, so we have to build a regime,” says Coleman.

“I think the other piece is it may put to bed some of the comments that people say that we’re chasing a pipe dream. I don’t think we are. I think we actually had the major players in Liquified Natural Gas here; there were at least 10 of them here. It was significant opportunity to want to make some investments.”

He will also speak at a few energy conferences on his trip.
