Home buyers poll suggests generational divide

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It seems “location, location, location” isn’t what it used to be.

What home buyers really want, according to a Pollara Strategic Insights poll done for Century 21 Canada and Rona is a home that is “move-in” ready.

Century 21 President Don Lawby says it’s not so much a surprise as it is a shift.

“[Boomers] are busy with other parts of their lives; they’re not looking to renovate when they’re buying a home today as maybe they were 10 years ago,” he explains.

The research also suggests a generational divide; as millennials are twice as likely as baby boomers to rank “location” as their top home-buying priority.

“They want to be home with the family… they want to live outside. Lifestyle is very important to millennials and therefore they pick location to go with that,” says Lawby.

Another key consideration is having enough money left over after a home purchase to cover personal expenses.
