Canada Post expects delivery season for the record books

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Even though it’s only October, Canada Post is predicting it’s busiest holiday season ever!

Anick Losier with the postal service says they’re expecting to sift through 1.5 million packages on December 20th, which would make it the largest volume for a single day since mail delivery began in Canada.

“Last year, I still have shivers thinking about it. We delivered — for the first time in our 250-year-old history — over one million parcels in one day,” recalls Losier.

“We had never seen anything like that, and by the time we realized that, we had a second day doing the same thing. So this year, we are saying that more Canadians are reverting to e-commerce.”

About 28,000 postal workers are on deck for deliveries to get those packages under your tree by Christmas Eve.

“We have 6,400 post offices across Canada and we’ve got people working around the clock. Starting in mid-November, we will start delivering on weekends, which is something people may not be accustomed to seeing from Canada Post… but we are the only ones that are going to be doing it.”

You’re advised to help out those delivery elves by getting your orders in early.
