Canada Post gives B.C. city the royal nod with new stamp honouring Prince George

VANCOUVER – Canada Post is honouring the British Columbia city that bears the name of the new royal baby.

The service is issuing a limited-edition stamp commemorating Prince George and his parents, Prince William and Kate, Oct. 22, and also giving collectors the option of cancelling the stamp in Prince George, B.C.

A cancellation mark means the stamp can’t be used again.

Canada Post spokeswoman Anick Losier says residents of the city can visit the post office and ask for the postmaster to cancel the stamp.

She says collectors living outside the city can place a letter affixed with the stamp inside another letter and mail it to the postmaster at the Prince George post office, requesting the stamp be cancelled in the city.

Losier says some collectors prefer cancelled stamps, and selecting the city as a cancellation site gives the community a sense of pride.
