Teacher contract talks set to resume

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We are going to once again start hearing about BC teacher contract talks soon.

Contract talks are set to resume later this month, it will be the first since negotiations were put on hold four months ago.

Talks were actually scheduled to take place this past week, but the fog hampered travel. Both sides will now try and meet just prior to October 31st.

It was back in late June that Education Minister Peter Fassbender overhauled the bargaining process by replacing the employers association with a single negotiator. The focus then shifted to talks with school support workers, resulting in a tentative deal reached last month.

In the meantime, teachers squared off in court recently over class size limits and staffing levels. A ruling in that case may not happen until next year.
