VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Is the internet ruining your life?
Sites like Facebook and Buzzfeed are a procrastinator’s dream, but new research looks at just how big of an impact the Internet has on our lives.
For every hour we spend online, we lose seven minutes of sleep and spend 17 fewer minutes outside.
Time spent online is also impacting our friendships. We lose out on a staggering 18 days seeing friends every year.
The study from the Technology Policy Institute in Washington also found we are giving up TV time to go online. Research has also found spending time online at work means employers lose out on about eight days of worker productivity every month.
What are we doing online? Checking social media sites is number one, followed by playing online games.
