IHIT puzzled by morning homicide in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) –

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team admits it doesn’t know why a man was shot dead in the driveway of a home in Fleetwood early this morning.

It happened around 156 Street and 86B Avenue. Some people in the neighbourhood report hearing four shots just after 5 a.m.

Sergeant Jennifer Pound says the victim was in his mid-30s and other people were home at the time of the shooting.

The man has no criminal record and police have not been to the house before.

“We do know he was in his vehicle, we think he was heading out for the morning, we don’t know where he was going we are going to be speaking with family. But again, at this point we are looking to gather more details and find the answers to those questions as well.”

“I can tell you we have identified who the victim is, but we won’t be releasing his name at this time,” added Pound.

“I’d just gone in to get coffee; a gentleman had said… there was a shooting,” said one caller to News1130, who adds no one can get through in the area.

One man whose yard is taped off as part of the investigation says he didn’t hear anything this morning, but the neighbourhood has its share of “ruckus,” with loud parties.
