VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Santa will be coming to town once again.

Mr. Claus has hung up the last banner on West Georgia today in preparation for this year’s Santa Parade. He says he can’t wait to visit Vancouver again.

“It’s the most fun – other than Christmas Eve, of course – the most fun I have all year,” shares Santa.

All the fun is for a good cause; the parade collects over a quarter of yearly donations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Santa Parade2On the parade’s tenth anniversary, organizers want to beat last year’s record of 25,000 pounds of collected donations. Food Bank CEO Aart Schumann Hess says this year the focus is on the quality of food as well as the quantity.

“We buy more local and fresh produce to make sure that people who receive food donation will get healthy and nutritious products,” says Hess.

He also asks you to refrain from bringing candy, and pay attention to the labels on the donated food items:

“We really want healthy, nutritious products – something with low sodium, low sugar levels.”

The 10th annual Santa Parade will happen downtown on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 pm.
