Ceremonial flags stolen from Richmond Royal Canadian Legion

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Remembrance Day ceremonies are only days away but one branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is having to make some last minute changes.

A Richmond branch has been dealt a severe blow after a theft last week.

“Two seven-foot ski bags that contained 10 flags and the 10 brass-coloured flag poles,” says RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel.

Whoever stole them broke into the Legion to do it.

He says recovering them will be difficult. “Some keen-eyed, eagle-eyed citizen that happens to see them or come across them because they do have some sort of logo or identification tag.”

Seibel has been on the force for 35 years. He says there isn’t much monetary value to the flags and he can’t believe something like this would happen. “I don’t know what they will do to replace them with the ceremony coming up, but it’s very disturbing.”

The missing flags include a Canadian flag, Union Jack, NATO, a Legion flag and a BC flag among others.
