Sally Ann short on volunteers for kettle campaign

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The holiday season is fast approaching; that means it’s time for the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

But even though this critical fundraising effort kicks off today, the charity is still short volunteers. They’re not hard to spot; Lauren Chan with the Salvation Army says they have about 600 kettles in 39 communities across the province.

What they need now is people to staff them, as this campaign funds their entire calendar year.

“It’s not only one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable annual charity events, but [also] all of the dollars we raise actually allow us to support vulnerable individuals throughout the holiday season and year-round.”

If you’d like to help out, Chan tells us they have plenty of openings available.

“If people are able to come ring a bell and support, we would welcome individuals, groups, companies, clubs, organizations, or teams to host a kettle. Kettle shifts are available between two to eight hours, from Monday to Saturday.”

You can also donate online or text GIVE BC to 45678 to make a $5 donation. It works through most mobile carriers.

This year’s fundraising goal in BC is $4 million.
