Fraser Valley man desperate to find kidney donor

By

FRASER VALLEY (NEWS1130) – A Fraser Valley man is putting out a desperate call for someone who might be willing to donate a kidney.

Jeff Vanderveen has already had one kidney removed and says his remaining one is failing. He suffers from numerous cysts on his kidneys, which is forcing them to shut down. “The pain was so severe, any heavy duty narcotic wouldn’t work and even if it did work, I couldn’t drive on that narcotic.”

He’s asking if you can give the give of life, to please give it. “My parents had one of their children pass away about five years ago from liver failure. I am not ready to let them have one of their other children pass away from them.”

Vanderveen says without a donor stepping forward, the wait list is often 8 to 10 years. Potential donors need to be either Type O Negative or O Positive and in generally good health.

Anyone wanting more information can either contact BC Transplant or email the family at kats_meow@shaw.ca.
