Book author not surprised by Surrey Six publication ban

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A major development in the Surrey Six murder trial is under wraps as a publication ban has been imposed on the judge-only trial.

Jerry Langton authored the book The Notorious Bacon Brothers: Inside Gang Warfare on Vancouver Streets and says the ban is a complex issue. “I knew it would be an issue going forward but I didn’t realize it would be this comprehensive. It’s a complex case.”

He says bans are to be expected even in what seem like unwarranted circumstances. “If we look at Robert Pickton, there was a wealth of evidence. He was accused of 46, 48 murders and he eventually went down for six. In the Canadian justice system, you have to be absolutely sure within a shadow of a doubt to get a conviction.”

He expects the recent ban to be lifted eventually although the pending trial of accused gangster Jamie Bacon could cause the judge to err on the side of caution.

Langton was surprised at the extent of the bans going into the trial.
