More people getting the flu shot

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Nothing can ruin the holidays more than a Christmas cold or flu.

It seems more people are getting vaccinated against the most common virus making its rounds this season.

And that appears to be the H1N1 virus says Dr Monika Naus with the BC Centre for Disease Control.

“Which was the pandemic strain in 2009. It has now sort of normalized and it is circulating at the predominant flu strain.

She says that particular strain is a good match for the vaccine. “We have had a very brisk demand for vaccine this year, I think in part because we launched the intra-nasal vaccine for children. It’s the one that you don’t have to inject…you spray it up their nose.”

There are also more places to get vaccinated with 75 per cent of pharmacies offering the option.
