MADD reminds you not to drink and drive this New Year’s

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Stay off the roads tonight, if you’ve had a drink!

That’s the message being hammered home by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, as we ring in the new year.

There are plenty of other options including taking a taxi, or hiring a limousine or towncar.

TransLink is also free tonight (starting 5 p.m.). SkyTrain and the SeaBus are also running an hour later than normal. Some buses will also run extended hours.

Bob Rorison with MADD says it’s important to plan ahead so there’s no temptation.

“Start now or hopefully, you started a day or two before that. Make a plan, stay at your friend’s house, take a taxi, take a bus, anything just do not drive your car if you’re impaired,” he says.

“Let’s not combine our celebrations and our excitement with driving our car if we’re impaired. Let’s just stay off the roads.”
