IHIT investigating after woman plunges from Surrey high rise

SURREY (NEWS1130) – People waking up to the New year this morning at a high rise in Surrey found themselves behind police tape.

A 19-year-old woman apparently fell from the 26th floor from the building at 100th Avenue and Whalley Road, one of three towers in a complex beside the King George SkyTrain Station. Homicide investigators have been called in.

Sergeant Adam MacIntosh with IHIT says it happened after police got a call about a domestic dispute. “Two police officers were very close in that area when that call came in.  And one of the officers did hear and observe something which was later was determined to be this girl falling”

It’s not the first time police have been called to the apartment unit.

“The police have attended to that residence regarding similar type of investigations. The specifics of those investigations and so forth are part of our current investigation…There is a history,” explains MacIntosh.

A 23-year-old has been arrested but charges have not yet been laid.

Police are looking to speak with any witnesses; if you have any information, you’re asked to give them a call.
