Operation Red Nose numbers down slightly from 2012

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It looks like some people are getting the message when it comes to not drinking and driving.

Chris Wilson with Operation Red Nose says it was a great year for the campaign but due to weather and some communities deciding to opt out some weekends, numbers were down slightly. “It was a great year, it wasn’t quite the busiest year ever, it was very close. We did 7,768 rides throughout the province, which is just below last year’s of just over 8,000.”

Wilson says they saw a flood of volunteers sign up after Christmas. “We were extremely gratified to see the number of volunteers that signed up to help on New Years Eve. All the areas on the Lower Mainland were really short for volunteers. Shortly after Christmas, we made an appeal to the community, it was just fantastic to see how many new people got involved.”
