Courage To Come Back Awards ready for nominees

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They are our loved ones, our neighbours, our friends, who have faced seemingly-insurmountable odds and who have come through with courage, strength and a drive to help.

News1130 is again very proud to be a sponsor of the Courage To Come Back Awards.

The nomination process opens up today and Britt Anderson with Coast Mental Health says they’re looking for extraordinary people who have overcome a lot.

“The Courage To Come Back Awards are quite amazing, they started 16 years ago and we basically recognize people who have faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles, overcome them and gone on to lead really exceptional lives,” Anderson tells News1130. “A big part of that is the successful recipients also give back in a meaningful way to their communities.”

There six different categories, recognizing people who have overcome social adversity, medical, physical, mental health and addiction issues. There is also a youth category.

“From a recipient perspective, it is life-altering for some of these people who are recognized. It gives them incredible recognition for what they’ve achieved and what they’ve done. It is inspiring and the stories that happen after for these folks is absolutely incredible,” says Anderson.

You can nominate someone at the Coast Mental Health or Courage To Come Back websites. February 11th is the deadline.

The Courage To Come Back Awards gala is May 8th in downtown Vancouver.
