Separating fact from fiction about the flu

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you were vaccinated against H1N1 in 2009, you are not immune to the flu strain!

There are a number of common flu myths as the virus makes its rounds.

Strains change, and Bruce Gamage with the Provincial Infection Control Network says even though the name is the same it is not the same virus.

“You don’t have immunity. If you got the infection at the time or if you go the shot at the time you would still need to get the new flu vaccine.”

He says many people also believe that they can get the the flu from being injected with the vaccine.

“The vaccine virus can’t make you sick because they are dead. A dead virus can’t cause an infection,” he adds.
