TV Blog Buzz: ‘Girls’ returns; a ‘Breaking Bad’ reunion?; Winnie Cooper sings Pi

By

The beloved book, TV series and movie “Friday Night Lights” was an eye-opener for some, exposing just how intense high school football can be in parts of the U.S., and its all-encompassing influence in small towns. Thrusting so much intense pressure and adulation on teenagers is one thing, but imagine if the kids taking the field were even younger. “Friday Night Tykes” is an Esquire Network documentary about eight- and nine-year-old kids competing at an elite level. The hard hits the kids take, the tears and crying, and the ultra-aggressive coaching in the trailer alone is cringe-inducing. One coach is heard shrieking, “There should be no reason why y’all don’t make other teams cry. I could care less if they cry.”

For those still going through “Breaking Bad” withdrawal, there might be some hope for a reunion of sorts. We already know that show creator Vince Gilligan is working on a spin-off called “Better Call Saul.” Well, “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul tells Details magazine that he and Bryan Cranston would love to reprise their roles of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White in the prequel. “Both Bryan and I want to be a part of that, if they’ll have us,” Paul says.

Lena Dunham’s “Girls” is back for its third season and New York magazine’s Vulture blog has a refresher to bring you back up to speed on where Hannah and her pals left off.

Danica McKellar is ready to teach you everything you need to know about Pi. McKellar — who will probably always be best known as Winnie Cooper from “The Wonder Years,” like it or not — is an accomplished math scholar and has launched an educational show on the Nerdist YouTube channel, called “Math Bites.” She sings her way through the first 139 digits of Pi. If you didn’t already know that the digits in Pi go on indefinitely, you better watch the video.
