Robert Pickton makes video court appearance

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It has been several years since anyone outside of the legal system has seen serial killer Robert Pickton.

Canadian Press reporter James Keller says he appeared via video in Vancouver today over a series of lawsuits filed by the families of several murdered women. “It was on a relatively small screen, kind of on the other side of the courtroom from where we were sitting. He was bald, he looked like he was either clean-shaven or had lost all of his hair. He was sitting there in a white t-shirt and he mostly sat there relatively quiet, you know, said ‘thank you’ and ‘good morning’ to the judge and the lawyers.”

Keller says Pickton was asked if he wanted to participate in this part of the hearing, although it doesn’t really involve Pickton, it’s more about whether the province or the City of Vancouver will pay the legal fees of the families during the lawsuit. “He said it didn’t really matter to him.”

Keller says the families want the findings of a public inquiry accepted.

It’s unclear when the case might actually go to trial.
