Seahawks thanking Vancouver fans for their support

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – And you thought seats to last weekend’s game were tough to get.

The Seahawks are hosting their bitter rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, this weekend in Seattle in another huge NFL playoff game and ticket prices are once again skyrocketing.

But with the ‘Hawks just a win away from heading to the Super Bowl in New Jersey, the team is thanking its BC fans with four official game-viewing parties on Sunday.

“It’s quite challenging for our fans. CenturyLink Field holds just over 68,000 fans and 60,000 are season ticket holders so the remaining inventory wasn’t that much,” says Omar Mawjee with Seahawks Regional Marketing Office Canada. “What was left went on sale Monday morning and sold out within minutes.”

Known as “12 North,” Vancouver fans — including many season ticket holders — certainly added to the frenzy. Mawjee says the devoted markets in BC, Alberta and Oregon have equal access to seats.

“We’ve always had a strong contingent of support on the other side of the border. Vancouver has supported the Seahawks all season long and if fans can’t get down to the game, we have four official viewing parties where fans can come in.”

The Village Taphouse on the North Shore, Library Square Public House downtown, Local in Kitsalano and The Strathcona Hotel in Victoria are hosting celebrations at game time.

“If fans want to get together with other members of 12 North, they can head into one of those locations and win prizes. Hopefully we’ll have a couple weeks of football left for the Seahawks,” Mawjee tells News1130.

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers kick off the NFC final at CenturyLink Field at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
