Sunwing won’t be affected by recent troubles: Expert

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local travel expert doesn’t think recent troubles will hurt Sunwing Airlines too much.  Earlier this week nearly 200 of the airline’s passengers were stranded for nearly 20 hours in Cuba without a lot of food and water or an explanation.

Claire Newell says it’s only right now that customers are associating the airline with bad experiences.  “That will pass because quite often they have the best prices in the market place and well it seems that most people will forget the situation and take the good price and travel with whomever.”

She explains similar situations have happened with other airlines, cruise lines or rail companies and they haven’t gone down because of it.

“People forget, they get over things like fear.  Fear of maybe a destination because of an incident that may have happened or fear of the ash that stopped flights [for example].  It’s all based on price.”

Newell says the compensation for travellers needs to be fair and timely and she adds damage control is also very important.
