Surrey groups continue call to increase safety

SURREY (NEWS1130) – It’s been one month since a hockey mom was beaten and left for dead out side of the Newton Arena.

Members of the community and a number of groups are working towards change and are demanding action on crime.

Douglas Elford with the Newton Community Association says there has been an increase in police presence in the area.

“This terrible tragedy has galvanized the community and we’re not going to let this go away and there is no way the politicians can hide from this.”

Along with the increase in police in the area, a security guard now patrols the area under new security lights.

Julie Paskall left behind two adult daughters, a 16-year-old son and a husband after she was randomly attacked as she waited for her son outside of the hockey arena.
