Woman seen in BASE jump video from Whistler gondola arrested

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – Whistler Mounties have arrested the woman who was seen in a video of an illegal BASE jump from the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.  But police are still working to track down the jumper himself, RCMP say they know who the man is and it’s just a matter of finding him.

Staff Sergeant Steve LeClair says the woman in the video was found yesterday after police traced her ski pass.  “She was arrested at her place of work and taken to the detachment and interviewed.  She was subsequently released.  We’re recommending charges of mischief over $5,000 and obstruction.”

The video shows the pair prying open a gondola cabin’s doors before a man launches himself out, opening a parachute, and shrieking for joy as he makes his way down to a creekside below.

LeClair calls it a dangerous stunt and says police are taking it very seriously.  “We’re going to pursue this vigorously.  We are fully expecting to arrest the suspect male at some point.”

Whistler Blackcomb says repairs costing thousands of dollars had to be made, and add more security is being considered.
