VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The provincial New Democrats are down yet another candidate for the leadership of the party. David Eby says he won’t run to replace current leader Adrian Dix.
He has a personal reason for the decision — his fiancée is pregnant. “It’s not compatible with being the kind of leader that I think the NDP needs right now which is someone who’s going to be really active and 100 per cent focused on the future of BC.”
He’s not worried about the lack of prospective candidates so far. “I know of at least four people who are currently either organizing or canvassing about whether or not they should run. So, I think we’ll have a good field. I think there will be a diversity of ages and backgrounds and I think that will be great for us.”
Eby will continue to focus on his riding of Vancouver-Point Grey.
The BC NDP will choose a new leader in September.
